WHERE: CENTRAL CATSKILLS
NEAREST TOWN: Big Indian, NY
Great camping spots are bit of a climb but worth it. Great rock ledges both sides of the ridge lets you take your pick of viewing the sunset or moon rise - or both if you are there on the right date. Beyond camp is a picturesque hike along the ridge to Panther Mountain. In August there was dozens of fungi all different colors, shapes and sizes.
GETTING THERE (Catskill Trails Map Set - map #142)
Drive along Oliverea Road until the parking area located at the hairpin turn at the base of Big Indian Hollow.
The spring base has fresh clear water but is a bit of a hike from camp - so take along all available containers to fill. The look-outs are perfect places to brush up on your map and compass skills.
