WHY GO

Challenge yourself along the 600 mile international extension of the Appalachian Trail. In the Gaspesie NP, the landscape is always dramatic but seems to change climatic zones daily from lush temperate forest to sub-arctic highlands and even arid rocky valleys. This is also the southern most latitude in North America where herds of caribou roam freely. The trail finishes at Forillon NP, the dramatic lands end of the Gaspé Peninsula that juts out into the

North Atlantic.

BEST BITS

Many incredible views and vistas.

Our evening meal at the Auberge at Mont Albert. Worth the 20 walk from our tent!

BUMMERS

No caribou were spotted, we only saw Caribou scat. Piles and piles of caribou scat.

CHALLENGES

Tough rocky trails with lots of steep ascents and descents. every day and bad bugs at a few of the campsites

GETTING THERE
We did this as a 2000 mile road trip from NYC. Yep a bit ambitious, but fun! The last bit of big city was Quebec City which meant a very early morning and a 7hr drive to the trail head at Le Huart in Gaspesie NP. After 5 nights of back country camping we took a shuttle back to the car from Mont Albert and drove 4hrs to Forillon NP.

PLANNING

Call the park offices for information and to book your camp sites. Ask the rangers for lots of advice and recommendations. They are how I found out about the shuttle service, water availability and that bears were NOT a problem in the park.

GEAR TIPS

This is one of those places you need to be ready for anything, cold, heat, bugs, rain. Bring extra socks so you at least have dry feet at night.
